Business idea in the making?

Today’s research was again an encouraging and productive one. I wanted to look why starting an ethical fashion brand is an excellent business idea to have. First of all, I examined surveys and statistics about if the customers know about ethical brands. It turns out that 76% of UK adults said they pay attention to the ethical identifications of their products, and the profile of the brand. After I discovered stores that my friend and I regularly visit including Topshop, Marks & Spencer and ASOS have all put an element of ethical fashion into their brand in some shape and form. Moving on, I got to know that there many organisations that are dedicated to helping out new designers launch an ethical fashion brand.

This is Verena Erin. Her background is in fashion designer and while studying and working in fashion she learned about the terrible ethical/environmental issues in the industry. It made her question her career choice and really look at her values; She started buying less clothing, sparking her minimalism journey, and researching conscious alternatives. Inspired by 'slow fashion' brands creating beautiful, eco friendly, and ethically-made clothing she realized that you don't have to sacrifice style to have a mindful wardrobe.

I think it is fundamental that these organisations do exist, and they are trying to up the awareness of ethical fashion. I think it is important because, they can help with product and business development and provide training and help on where to get funding from to start of their brand. All the information I have gathered today will help me create my final piece, because many of these organisations have helped previous fashion designers to start up producing their brands. I could look at previous designers hopefully contacting them, or reading stories on what were the steps they took to be where they are at right now. Furthermore, I also could visit The London College of Fashion to take part in their workshops, and follow with ethical fashion brands all over the world. One aspect that really interested me, is how LCF helps encourage ethical fashion in London fashion week. It would be really inspiring for me to examining their showcase of eco-friendly and ethical clothing.

Peace
