In today’s lesson I decided to research about the pursuit of modernity regarding fashion. First of all ethical fashion is growing slowly but silently. It is definitely not going to be long before it attracts a respectable amount of audience, and ethical fashion stores being household’s name. Back to the pursuit of modernity I was reminded that non – western societies took some amount time to finally adopt how the western society dressed. It also highlighted how woman - more than men was more reluctant to change styles due to their long held passion with the clothes in their historical native country. My opinion on this is that it is true many non – western countries are altering and abandoning their native country clothes. However, continent such as: Africa still do contain a huge clothes that the western countries have not passed on. This is a good thing because there needs to be clothing that can be established towards a country. This creates a sense of belonging and pride. I will utilise this information to create my final piece by pursuing modernity. I think I should do this because, more and more people are abandoning their traditional clothes and seeking something more western because we live in a society those western aspects dominates everything. As a result of doing this, I will attract a higher audience which creates people to finally comprehend ethical fashion.
After finished looking at pursuit of modernity, researching gender and dress was next on the agenda for me. It was detailed how male clothing in the medieval times represented power, wealth and pride. Woman clothing on the other hand, represented a more feeble and colourful choice for them. So appearance regarding what clothes you’re wearing was represented centuries ago and we are still very much judged on that. My opinion on it is that people nowadays cannot ignore that women’s clothing is definitely seen as more feeble due to high amounts of colours on it such as: yellow and pink. I think it is amazing if a man does wear clothes as such of the colours I listed above they’ll get put in the category as ‘feminine’. It was relevant to me because I needed to see how far back this stereotypes and representation were stretch back to. Furthermore, I needed to see where these ideologies originated from. When I do create my final piece I will try my utmost best to avoid the overgeneralised representation of women and men. I will do this because I think that both gender want cross the normalities of these aspects and wear want they want without any judgements.

This is what we DIER. believe in. Peace.
