Today in class I finally got the research underway for my FMP. Firstly I spoke to one of my digital media teachers and she gave me the green light regrading proceeding with my topic. The discussion between us was enlightening and through her she recommended me to look at a movement called Humans Of New York. She stated it is a hot movement with approximately 4.7 million followers on Instagram as of January 2016. It has inspired people around the world and help people to change their lives along the way. I think what Brandon Stanton does deserves all the accolades approaching his way. I like how there is a little paragraph beside the portrait just briefly describing a short event that has happened in the person’s lives. I do think Humans Of New York is relevant to my topic because there is an similar element I want introduced to my FMP. I want to find out and acknowledge the reason why in fact people choose to wear their clothes. Maybe they are inspired by a certain individual or if they don’t wear a certain clothes like their friends; they are not deemed cool enough.
Researching into this has given me an idea I might bring into fruition. I want to discuss with people I recruit why they wear their clothes and what representation and stereotype they think they get from people when they first see them.

“Back in Guyana, my father captained a ship with forty men. Here, he drives a bus for the MTA. It’s been a tough adjustment, but he did it for his family.” “How many siblings do you have?” “A lot. My dad was captain of the ship.”
This is what you can expect from the type of work Brandon Stanton http://www.humansofnewyork.com/post/76176528158/back-in-guyana-my-father-captained-a-ship-with
After finished for the day with the research into Humans of New York. I decided to look into some fashion theorist and look to what they state about the world of fashion. Whilst doing this, I gathered some interesting statements and I got to learn along the way the names of theorists which my teacher encouraged me to further research into. At first, when I was reading what they were saying I didn’t really understand it, they were using such big words which they could’ve simplified it so many people could comprehend what they are trying to say. For example Entwistle says “fashionable dress embodies the latest aesthetic and what is defined desirable at a given moment. From what I gathered I acknowledge that fashion lives and dies at certain times. Sometimes, it can be a hot and trendy piece of clothing that must be wore by people who are perhaps late to hear it. However, when that type of fashion dies a new one is born possibly passed down from music stars, actors, fashion designers etc.
This information was relevant to me because I need to create my own brand that everyone can feel and be comfortable in. I also want it to be durable so it can be wore for a long time. Furthermore, there is a gap in the market for ethical fashion – there are hardly any high street stores that are dedicated to this sector which people genuinely want to see more of when shopping. When I am creating my final piece, (whatever outcome that will be) I need to state that these clothes will be in a high street store so it is accessible for people who desire these types of clothing.
Moving on from fashion theorists, I decided to look for current leading ethical brands so I can get a good idea how is it going in the market, is it attracting a big audience and what is the price range for the clothes they are producing. That is when I stumble across the brilliant Stella McCartney who is a leading woman for an active luxury brand for environmentally clothing. In my opinion, the work Stella is doing is magnificent and she truly inspires me to try to implement what she does into my work. I seriously think more people should be investing into ethical fashion because it can make a difference. Globally the world can reap the benefits because everything about it is eco-friendly. This information was relevant to me because like Stella, I going to be in the position she was which is starting up my own ethical brand. She gave me ideas on what the company should be like and what they encourage to do in the future. I also go to see who this brand works with and how they are still trying to make a bigger change.
